The NESS Energy Project is a joint project funded by Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council and the Moray Council to build an Energy from Waste plant to deal with all of the household residual waste in these areas.

As part of the contract the company building the facility are required to deliver some community benefits, and as part of this commitment, they have just opened up a formal process for community groups in all 3 local authority areas to apply for funding for community projects.

Gourdon Book Swap Stations
This blog is dedicated to the creative journey of the Gourdon Book Swap Stations. From initial idea through to installation, it will track the progress of the project, document elements of the community engagement and display worksheets and creative films that allow participants to explore their surroundings, their history and their creative responses to the project.

NESS Energy Project
ACCIONA, a global leader in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure, has been awarded the NESS Energy Project contract for the construction and operation of an energy from waste facility in Aberdeen.
ACCIONA is committed to making a positive contribution to the local community by supporting a wide range of social, economic and environmental benefits, and is looking to engage with community stakeholders.
Community groups are invited to apply for funding, or request time bank hours for ACCIONA staff’s expertise/labour to help with social/community projects.
The types of projects that may be supported, but are not limited to are:

• Creating opportunities for culture, leisure, and recreation 
• Promoting health and wellbeing, including mental health
• Supporting and promoting activities for younger people
• Supporting and promoting activities for older people
• Enhancing places

Never More Needed
The Never More Needed campaign in Scotland has produced a short film showcasing the difference that charities, community groups and social enterprises are making to people and communities during the coronavirus pandemic.
The film – created by Media Co-op – is part of the #NeverMoreNeeded campaign, a national effort to help remind everyone how essential the voluntary sector is now and in the future.

Allander Youth Activities Trust 
Allander Youth Activities Trust promotes the education and training of young people across voluntary youth organisations at a local level.
Activities funded include: climbing; mountain biking; quad biking; skiing; sailing; kayaking and trips to various places of interest as well as weekends at Scout and Guide Centres. Support for overseas trips, expeditions and activities can also be provided.
The minimum grant is £50 and the maximum grant is £3,500. Applications are only accepted for outdoor activities.

Coronavirus info & resources
Due to changes in restrictions and guidance SCVO is continuing to update the Coronavirus Third Sector Information Hub with new information that will help organisations work through the difficult decisions that now need to be taken.
This includes a voluntary sector vaccination update, information on various funds currently available to help support voluntary sector organisations deal with the impact of coronavirus, and up-to-date guidance on returning to the workplace based on proposed changes to restrictions.

Aberdeenshire Wellbeing Festival
Next week is the 6th Aberdeenshire Wellbeing Festival, supporting National Mental Health Week.
The festival promotes and celebrates everyday community opportunities which contribute to our wellbeing. A healthy diet and regular exercise are good for our physical and mental wellbeing as are strong social relationships, good community networks and access to affordable activities and opportunities. The Aberdeenshire Wellbeing Festival offers individuals, groups and communities ways to support mental wellbeing for all, reduce stigma and promote recovery.
This year’s theme is nature and the environment and an opportunity to raise awareness of how central connecting to the natural world is for our health and wellbeing.
