Warmer Homes Scotland event

Join Home Energy Scotland for an interactive online event where they will discuss the Scottish Government’s national fuel poverty scheme, Warmer Homes Scotland and how we can work together to help fuel poor households.
This event will provide organisations with lots of information on:

• how the Warmer Homes Scotland scheme works
• how it has helped people
• other funding options available from the Scottish Government

Food for Thought Education Fund
The Food for Thought education fund gives financial support to Early Learning and Childcare Centres, primary schools, ASN schools (including those in the independent sector) and secondary schools in Scotland to help them develop food and health as a context for learning.
The fund gives successful applicants up to £3000 towards a project that that can help educate young people on all aspects of food and drink – from production to consumption. Learners are given the chance to participate in exciting and challenging food and health experiences within and beyond the curriculum. Skills such as growing, harvesting and cooking food can be developed in conjunction with learning about the environmental impact of our food choices.

2021 Nature of Scotland Awards
The 2021 Nature of Scotland Awards, co-sponsored by NatureScot, are open for applications  until the 14th of June.
It’s free to take part, so nominate your nature hero or apply for your own project. Applications can come from work started in 2018 onwards.

Nationwide Community Grant
Nationwide Building Society has opened applications for its 2021 Community Grants. After a challenging year for everyone, but especially for those who are most vulnerable in our society, having a place fit to call home is more important than ever before. The Community Grants Programme tackles local housing issues by giving charities, community land trusts and housing co-operatives access to grants between £10,000 and £50,000.

• Applications are open to any organisations that provide solutions to help:
  Prevent people from losing their home
• Help people into a home
• Support people to thrive within the home environment

Applications will close at 11pm on Monday the 21st of June, or sooner if the cap is reached.

Light the North – Clan Cancer Support
Clan Cancer Support need you to help Light the North this Summer/Autumn to help raise funds and awareness.
They are currently recruiting an army of volunteers to help with Light the North, the lighthouse trail from August – October 2021.
Light the North is a public art sculpture trail which will see 50 large lighthouse sculptures plus 90 little lighthouse sculptures, each which have been individually hand painted by an artist, school or community group, go on display in towns and communities across north east Scotland from August – October 2021.   
They need volunteers from across the north-east.  You can volunteer as an individual, as a group of friends and family, as a corporate team or as a community group!

Positive Action Grants
Does your club or community group have an idea that could be developed to provide opportunities to improve health and wellbeing?
Are you looking for funding to get started? 
Live Life Aberdeenshire has introduced the Positive Action Grant, which is open to constituted community clubs/groups with ideas to improve health and wellbeing locally. Grants of £200 to £5000 will be available in 2021.

Bringing Communities Back Together
The Asda Foundation has launched a new funding stream called the “Bringing Communities Back Together” grant. This funding can be applied for to support a celebration bringing people back together (i.e a lunch Club Party after members have been shielding or a community celebration), for getting activities back on track (i.e new kits for a sports club or yarn and craft supplies for a Knit and Natter group) or a combination of both. 
The funding is expected to be allocated quickly, so if you have a suitable project get in touch with Abbie (Community_Portlethen@asda.co.uk) at  Asda Portlethen.

Mearns and Coastal Healthy Living Network Health Walks
MCHLN offer three Health Walks in association with Paths for All, for people aged 50+ around Mearns. The walks are a combination of valuable low-level exercise and social contact. They are suitable for all levels of fitness, as well as for people who need walking aids.
Join MCHLN for a short, low impact social walk, led by trained walk leaders. Ideal for anyone looking to get back to gentle exercise following injury, illness or physical inactivity.

• Mondays 10am – meet at Stonehaven Leisure Centre car park.
• Wednesdays 2pm – meet at Masonic Hall, Laurencekirk.
• Thursdays 10am – meet at St Cyrus Village Hall.

Co-op Local Community Fund – DEADLINE
The Co-op Local Community Fund supports projects across the UK, by giving local causes a helping hand each time a member buys selected Co-op branded products and services.
If your project helps people access food, improves mental wellbeing, or provides opportunities for young people, apply here.

The Month of Community 
Eden Project Communities are teaming up with good causes across the UK to celebrate summer 2021, with a whole Month of Community!

The #MonthofCommunity starts with The Big Lunch weekend from 5 June, and supports a number of charitable events throughout the summer.  Why not host your Big Lunch in support of one of these great causes?

Woodward Charitable Trust
Woodward Charitable Trust offers grants for core costs.  The Trustees particularly look to fund projects that help families and young people and that are aiming to improve the life chances of the beneficiaries.
They like projects that promote community cohesion and the development of skills that will change the outlook and outcomes for the users.
Organisations that promote volunteering and involve both past and present users in their operations or management are encouraged.
The next deadline is 30^th July 2021.

Keep Safe Initiative
Keep Safe is a national initiative that works in partnership with charity I Am Me Scotland and Police Scotland to create a network of ‘Keep Safe Places’.
These are places that disabled or vulnerable people can use to seek assistance, if required, while out in the community. There are currently over 870 Keep Safe places across Scotland.
There is no cost involved to become a Keep Safe place and all participating premises are approved by Police Scotland and provided with training.

ASDA Foundation – Bringing Communities Back Together
This new grant will be targeted at reuniting communities, celebrating togetherness, and supporting groups as they resume their activities in person again.
There are three options within this grant. Groups must be clear from the outset which option they intend to apply for: Celebration Event, Getting Activities Back on Track, or a Combination of both.
All events must take place between 1 July 2021 and 30 September 2021.
Applications are open until 16^th August.

Who, Where & How Leaflet
During the pandemic a small working group updated the ‘WHO, WHERE & HOW’ leaflets for KINCARDINE & MEARNS.
These handy leaflets contain the contact details of services/organisations providing support and information on a range of topics from mental health, employment support and wellbeing groups in K & M and Aberdeenshire. There is also an insert with details on food provision.

The Jo Walters Trust – Aberdeenshire Grant
This fund supports projects with a strong Aberdeenshire connection which aim to provide education outdoors. They recognise that getting outdoors is proving very difficult in the current circumstances for some, however it can provide enormous benefits, so want to help people achieve it in a safe way.
The next deadline is 30^th June.

The Bettridge Centre in Newtonhill is offering free Come & Try sessions for the rest of May.  Take a look at the poster for the great options on offer from Walking Netball to Mindfulness.
Also, in conjunction with TurningPoint Scotland, the Centre is hosting the Aberdeenshire Peer Support Service on 24^th & 31^st May  More details are available here.

Framing a Just Transition
The University of Aberdeen is running a project that aims to increase community awareness and participation in achieving a just transition to net zero in the North East of Scotland.
The first workshop, Leading from the Front, is on Thursday the 27th May 9:30am to 1:00pm.

Clubs in Crisis Fund
The Clubs in Crisis Fund, administered by Foundation Scotland on behalf of Made By Sport, offers local sports clubs and organisations the opportunity to apply for a grant to help support young people as they start to recover from the effects of the latest lockdown.
The fund will award unrestricted grants of £2,021 to clubs who match the criteria.

The Aberdeenshire Bothy
The Aberdeenshire Bothy is a new project Aberdeenshire Council is working on with Cycling UK, funded by Smarter Choices Smarter Places, to help get more people out walking & cycling.
The project will be based within the five integrated travel towns – Ellon, Fraserburgh, Huntly, Inverurie and Portlethen.

SSEN’s Resilient Communities Fund
The 2021 round of SSEN’s Resilient Communities Fund is now open, with £480,000 available for non-profit making organisations, community groups and charities working to protect and enhance the resilience of those most vulnerable in the north of Scotland and central southern England.  
The deadline date for applications is Thursday 10 June. 
The 2021 fund will support local projects that:

• Protect the welfare of vulnerable community members through enhancing their resilience and improving community participation and effectiveness.
• Enhance community facilities, services and communication – particularly to support local response to a significant emergency event.

 The 2021 fund is particularly focused on projects helping vulnerable or isolated people living in SSEN’s network areas, with applications of up to £20,000 to be considered by an independent fund panel.
