Aberdeenshire’s Annual Doors Open Days event will be going digital in 2021 giving visitors online access to buildings across the Shire over the weekend of Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 September. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the event, Doors Open Days is Scotland’s largest free festival that celebrates the built environment and aims, by providing free unique viewing opportunities to sites of historic, cultural, architectural and community interest; to increase public appreciation and enjoyment of Scotland’s built heritage; and to promote inclusion in Scotland’s civic spaces and activities. The event is coordinated at a national level by the Scottish Civic Trust, and locally by the Environment Team within the Planning & Environment Service.
Call for new venues for 2021! Although last year’s event was somewhat different as a result of Covid restrictions, over 30 venues took part. Again in 2021 we are looking forward to making the most of continuing with the new digital format to bring the culture and heritage of Aberdeenshire to a wider audience than ever before, across the Shire, the country and beyond! If you are part of or know of an organisation or community who would wish to participate in this year’s event, we would be delighted to hear from you. This year, we are also hoping to build on the Scottish Government’s Year of Coasts and Waters by using the Doors Open Days event to highlight, celebrate and promote how we engage with this remarkable contributor to our environment.
