The Participatory Budget consultation process has launched and Aberdeenshire Council is looking for individuals and sport & leisure group’s input for projects to be put to a community vote.

Sir George Earle Benevolent Fund Grant Programme
Managed by Foundation Scotland, the Sir George Earle Benevolent Fund Grant Programme is Scotland wide and is seeking applications from projects supporting older people facing loneliness and isolation.
Projects must meet one of the following themes:

  • Improve older people’s access to social activity
  • Reduce feelings of loneliness or isolation in older people
  • Increase the availability of local projects or activity which supports older people
  • Respond to local social or economic needs
Grants of up to £3,000 are available and the closing date is 2 August 2021.  
Applications should be made online via the Foundation Scotland website.
 
Developing Trauma Informed Child & Family Services in Aberdeenshire
2pm on Thursday 2nd of September
The event will provide opportunities to:
  • Learn about the impact of trauma and what a trauma-informed approach looks like;
  • Learn from existing good practice across Aberdeenshire and how a trauma-informed approach can support improving outcomes for children and families
  • Hear about existing resources and support for implementation of a trauma-informed approach through the National Trauma Training Programme
  • Discuss how a trauma-informed approach could support your area of work and organisation and identify tangible actions that can help embed a trauma-informed approach in your area of work.

Community Ownership Fund 
The UK government has launched a new £150 million Community Ownership Fund to help ensure that communities can support and continue benefiting from the local facilities, community assets and amenities most important to them.
Voluntary and community groups can bid for up to £250,000 of match funding to help them buy or take over local community assets at risk of being lost, to run as community-owned businesses. Funding may support the purchase and/or renovation costs of community assets and amenities.
The Fund will run until 2024/25 and there will be at least 8 bidding rounds in total. The deadline for applications to the first bidding round is 13 August 2021. Round 2 will open in December 2021 and Round 3 in May 2022.

Carer’s Allowance Supplement
Holyrood’s Social Justice & Social Security Committee has launched a consultation on the proposed doubling of the Carer’s Allowance Supplement given to unpaid carers at the end of the year, seeking views on the increased payment, whether increased payments are the best way to support unpaid carers and the level of parliamentary scrutiny for future increases of the supplement. The closing date for submissions is Thursday 12 August.

Social Security Training – Age Scotland
Many older people in Scotland are not claiming the benefits that they are entitled to, despite the fact that the additional income could make a big difference to their daily lives.
Age Scotland’s free workshop provides useful information for older people and those who support or care for them.  It aims to raise awareness of the benefits that exist to support older people in Scotland and how to unlock them.

Young Scot Climate Co-design Group
Young Scot, Keep Scotland Beautiful and YouthLink Scotland, supported by the Scottish Government, are looking for young people from across Scotland to join their exciting new Young Scot Climate Co-design Group – part of the Scottish Government’s official COP26 Scottish Youth Climate Programme.

Meikle Carewe Wind Farm Community Fund is Open
The Meikle Carewe Wind Farm Community Fund is open until 30th September 2021.
Applications to the fund can be made from not-for-profit groups and organisations, based in the following Community Council areas:

  • Crathes, Drumoak and Durris
  • Newtonhill, Muchalls and Cammachmore
  • North Kincardine Rural
  • Portlethen and District
  • Stonehaven and District

Scotland’s Year of Stories
The YS22 Open Events Fund has been designed to support new, creative event proposals and programming that will provide high-profile content created especially in response to the 2022 Themed Year opportunity.
Organisers may apply for individual grants of between £15,000 – £60,000. The deadline for all applications is Thursday 12 August 2021.

Volunteering Support Fund
The Scottish Government has launched a new fund to help third sector organisations recruit volunteers who may be particularly disadvantaged.

GetGrowing Scotland
GetGrowing Scotland is a new online hub for groups and individuals gardening and growing in their local communities. If you want to start or improve a growing site in your community or at home, visit the hub for resources, support and inspiration. Please also contribute your stories and ideas to get communities growing.

Community Capacity and Resilience Fund
The Community Capacity and Resilience Fund (CCRF) from Scottish Government aims to support local, community-based organisations with small grants of up to £8,000 to deliver activities that help people mitigate the impact of welfare reform, promote social inclusion, combat inequality, and increase partnership working.  
Applications should be able to demonstrate: 

  • How they will help bring organisations together in partnership to support people
  • How they will develop people’s ability to prevent themselves from reaching crisis point
  • Who will be supported by the activity
  • What impact the activity will have on people locally, and on the way in which the organisation operates

The Scottish Government has issued new guidance to support employers to plan for a phased and limited return to offices in Level 0 of the COVID-19 protection levels.

Movement for Good
Movement for Good awards are available to charities that are changing people’s lives for the better. Phase two will focus on the following themes:
  • Education and skills: Enable learning and development, in particular among young people
  • Rural or community development: Support and build our communities, in particular in rural areas
  • Arts, culture or heritage: Help celebrate, preserve or protect our heritage and culture
  • Climate change or environment: Contribute to our collective challenge to tackle impact on the climate and environment
  • Human rights or equality: Further a more inclusive and equal world for everyone

Knit For The Archie Foundation
The Archie Foundation is calling upon the knitting army to help increase the stock of their knitted worry monsters! Monsters can be knitted, crocheted, or sewn as long as they have a zip mouth or a pocket worries can be popped in.

Mind Yer Mind Campaign
Do you have a few minutes to answer ten simple questions about mental wellbeing, and how you look after yours?
Aberdeenshire Community Planning Partnership is launching a campaign to ensure people know the benefits of looking after their mental wellbeing, whilst also sharing hints, tips and advice on how to do this.
Your survey answers are important to us because if we are running a campaign for people in the North East, we want it to be based on thoughts and experiences of people from the North East.
The survey is completely confidential and is available here.
