Welcome to the KDP Bulletin.
There is lots going on this week, so we are sharing this extra Bulletin. Hopefully you will find something of interest to you and your community group.

First off, two pieces of good news…

The residents of Edzell Woods had a very productive day creating a new edible trail. They positioned new planters, benches and picnic tables along the route and started to plant trees and other edible treats.
The trail was made possible thanks to funding from The Rural Communities Challenge Fund.

After the success of new Youth Clubs in Stonehaven, Portlethen and Laurencekirk, Kincardine & Mearns Youth Clubs are going to open another new Club in Auchenblae. See the article below for more information. What a great opportunity for our local youth.

KDP is delighted to announce that we will be hosting a Volunteer Recruitment Event on Thursday 25^th April in Stonehaven.
This will be an ideal opportunity to let people know what you do and where you need volunteer support. It will also be a chance to network with other like-minded groups.
We have a limited number of tables available for community groups and voluntary organisations in Kincardine & Mearns, so if you are interested in getting involved, please contact Margo at margo@kdp.scot.

Grants of up to £500 are available to schools and educational organisations across the UK seeking funding to kickstart projects that will benefit their students.
The Twinkl Prize Draw Community Collection will help fund any type of project, such as setting up a breakfast club, resourcing after-school activities, purchasing new playground equipment, upgrading an ICT suite, or kickstarting big projects.
The fund opens to applications every half-term, and applications should be submitted by a member of the Senior Leadership Team on behalf of the school.
Prize winners will be chosen at random from all qualifying entries within thirty days following each closing date. One or more winners will be drawn in each draw at the discretion of the prize giver.
The closing date for applications is the 17th March 2024.

Kincardine & Mearns Youth Clubs (KMYC) have brought three free universal youth clubs to the major settlements of the Kincardine and Mearns. Portlethen, Mearns and Stonehaven have run successful youth clubs since 2022-23.
The youth rights focused organisation would now like to expand youth clubs to the more rural settlements and are about to establish a fourth youth club in Auchenblae after the Easter break.
Feedback from young people and parents highlights the value placed on having a safe place to go to socialise and have fun with other young people with support available from trained youth work volunteers.
The new Auchenblae volunteer team want to know what young people would like to see in their new club so they can get some resources. Please complete the form and tell them your hopes and ideas, Auchenblae Youth Club Survey (google.com). The club is for the young people aged 10+ years.

A “Menopause Matters” event is being held in Inverbervie on Thursday 7^th March from 7pm – 8.30pm.

The Scottish Children’s Lottery Trust funds organisations supporting the most vulnerable children and young people who are at a high risk of being negatively impacted by poverty.
The are two funds available to applying charities:
Small Fund – maximum award of £5,000
Medium Fund – maximum award of £10,000
The next closing date is 11.59pm on Friday 15^th March.

The WEA is a charity who have received Government funding for a programme named Multiply.
They are offering FREE courses to help with numeracy in the community. These are available to anyone who lives within Aberdeenshire, age 19+ and does not have a Nat 5 C grade in Maths or above.
For example:

Short 2-hour sessions such as cooking on a budget, beginner Excel spreadsheets, financial literacies (banking, managing a budget), anxiety with numbers. Can be tailored to any group/hobby involving numbers.
5- or 10-week courses for 2 hours per week such as a crash reminder course, supporting children’s numeracy, skills for employment, pupil assistant course, starting a business.

Levels from basic number skills through to progression to access national 5 courses. Individuals can work at their own pace and level. Online or in person courses.

The KFC Youth Foundation supports organisations focused on empowering young people in the UK to fulfil their potential and build a positive future by providing spaces that allow young people to feel safe and secure, by providing mentoring and helping to unlock talent and build life skills to improve their chances to gain meaningful employment.
They want to fund work that helps young people to create firm foundations, by addressing their needs through early intervention.
Grants up to £2,500 are available.

The ‘Platinum Jubilee Coastal Path’, as a legacy tribute to her late Majesty, is the provisional name for a coastal path along the entire coastline of Aberdeenshire.
The Tangleha Artists Collective has been tasked with the development of a coastal path from the River North Esk to the southern edge of Aberdeen City limits at Cove.
In time, it is envisaged that this ‘Kincardineshire’ section will join up with paths around the City of Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Banffshire.

The Way Forward for Families Partnership has now opened – a joint programme invested in by Corra Foundation and the Scottish Government which will invite applications for funding from partnerships, led by third sector organisations working in partnership with public bodies, to deliver support to children, young people and families affected by alcohol and other drugs.
Any organisation interested in applying for funding should contact Corra to arrange an initial welcome chat before completing the online application form.

Applicants have until Tuesday 19th March to make an initial inquiry.
This will be followed by a conversation with a member of Corra’s team, with full applications due via the online application portal by 2pm on Tuesday 26th March.

Climate Week North East is back for the 10th year, offering an exhilarating 10-day (15^th – 24^th March) programme packed with over 80 diverse events aimed at tackling the pressing issues surrounding climate change. From engaging discussions to hands-on workshops, nature walks, courses to community clean-up drives and more, this initiative promises something for everyone who’s passionate about safeguarding our planet.

The Ian Findlay Path Fund supports the improvement of local paths within and between communities, making it easier for people to choose active travel and public transport for everyday journeys.
