What

Congratulations to Community Councillors who have sold a record 327 tickets costing £5 each for our 2008 draws.  Opportunities to win cash prizes at each monthly draw have been increased as follows:

£5,£10 and £15 every month.

Extra £25 draw in February, May and August 2008.

Extra £50 draw in March, June and October 2008.

An extra special draw of £100 in Decenber 2008.

This year we have been able to allocate £900 for local good causes.

Local clubs, societies and individuals are invited to apply for grants giving good reasons.

Why

Apart from an administration grant from Aberdeenshire Council, this is our only means of us funding worthy causes in our area. We are a not-for-profit organisation so, aside from subsistence, all funds are distributed to worthy applicants.

When

Tickets are sold annually, usually from our November meeting onwards, with the aim of getting all tickets sold in time to enable the first prizes of the year to be drawn at our January meeting.
Prizes are usually drawn at each meeting. If for any reason prizes are not drawn at a given meeting, they are drawn at the next available meeting, in addition to all draws due at that meeting.

Where

Tickets can be bought from all Community Councillors at Maryculter Community Hall at meetings between the dates above (provided they haven't sold out). Details of winners are announced at the meetings, in the minutes and below.

How

Winners are decided for each prize in turn by drawing numbers corresponding to the ticket numbers, at each meeting. The ticket number is announced and the corresponding winner's name read out from the master list. The winners will then receive a cheque for the prize amount by post immediately after the draw. Only one prize can be won by any given ticket within a given set of monthly draws, but all winning tickets are resubmitted into the hat for subsequent draws.

Who

Any consenting adult is eligible to buy a ticket. Tickets can be bought from Community Councillors on the list. We are also very thankful for the help we receive from key members of the public selling tickets (you know who you are), as it's a not-insignificant effort to cover our area. As we sell tickets door-to-door, we ask that if you are offered tickets from someone you don't know (as with all cold-callers) you not be afraid to ask for identification if you are unsure. If you're not happy: PLEASE SAY NO, as no appointed representative of ours will be offended or persistent. Happily, crime is low in our area and without complacency we'll keep it that way.
